The West Mesa rises west of the Rio Grande along I-10 and the US-70 / Picacho Avenue corridor, taking in Cedar Hills, Raasaf Hills and open land toward the Sierra de las Uvas. Most properties sit on larger rural lots with room for horses, workshops and privacy, and many look back east over the valley and city lights to the Organ Mountains.

Prehistoric Trackways National Monument and the open desert of the Robledo Mountains are nearby for hiking, riding and off-road use. Groceries and services are found along Picacho Avenue in town.

Buyers who like the west side also consider Picacho Hills for golf-course and hillside homes, Northwest Las Cruces & Doña Ana for irrigated valley land, and East Mesa & Organ for acreage on the other side of town.
